. Cranham is ideally located as a base for a week long programme of fun and adventure or for a day or weekend where the wide range of activity options means that there is likely to be something to suit almost everyone.

The woodland and countryside around the site not only make a great place for nature study they is also a large and extensive network of footpaths making it an idea base for hikes and rambles. The centre manager and his staff are able to give advise on hiking routes to groups using the centre. (The Cotswold Way also runs fairly close to the site) We can arrange activities for you and provide activity instructors who meet the stringent authorisation requirements of the Scout Association.
In the local area:
Canoeing, sailing and jet-skiing are available at the the water sports centre at South Cerney which is only a short drive away.
Outdoor climbing, abseiling, caving and canoeing, on the River Wye in the Forest of Dean is less than an hour away.
Climbing walls and boulder room at the Warehouse in the historic city of Gloucester offer something to suit all levels of ability and experience and is only about 20 minutes from the site.
Swimming pools are close by. In Stroud there is a good outdoor pool with easy parking open all summer and an indoor pool next door to it with a large sports centre offering tennis, badmington, squash, etc. In Gloucester there is a large new complex (GL1) of swimming and leisure pools, while in Cheltenham the Lido offers another excellent outdoor pool and there is an indoor pool on the other side of the town.
Dry slope skiing is available on the famous Gloucester Ski Slope
Horse riding is possible at a number of local riding centres and stables
Go-karting is also available in Gloucester.
Cycling is possible in the local area although the narrow roads make in unsuitable for young groups. There are some good off road cycle trails in and around Stroud, while there is also a good network of off road cycle trails in the Forest of Dean (where there is also good cycle hire facilities) The warden and his staff are happy to advise you on activities and provide information about local centres and facilities. Please do not hesitate to ask if you need any help.
Day trips are popular with some groups. If you are considering a day trip then you might like to visit one of the following, all are less than an hours drive from the site:

Museum of Advertising and Packaging and the Regiments of Gloucestershire

Also near by is the G.W.R Steam Railway, Berkely Castle and Sudeley Castle, The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge, Westonbirt Arboretum, Bourton-on-the-Water, Cotswold Motor Museum, Cotswold Wildlife Park, St. Augustines Farm, The Shambles - a Museum of Victorian Life and the Corinium Muesum at Cirencester.
