BEAVER SCOUT NEWS
A happy and healthy 2008 to you all. No sooner do we catch our breath from the exciting and eventful centenary year of scouting that we can look forward to a revised Balanced Programme which now includes 12 Activity Badges, 6 Staged Activity Badges, 3 Partnership Awards and 6 Challenge Awards before the ultimate goal for Beaver Scouts, the Chief Scout's Bronze Award.

These changes to the programme have been overviewed in the Dec 07/Jan 08 Beaver Supplement of Scouting Magazine and I remind you that the materials will be available from February via Scout Shop Ltd at Lancing, or, in District's where there is a Scout Shop, why not support Scouting locally and purchase the material via your local Scout Shop.

If anyone experiences any problems with the new material or in obtaining it please do let me know. It’s new to us all so I’m happy to share and pass on any feedback to others etc.

On looking back at 2007, at a regional meeting in October, the Beaver Scout ACC’s agreed to take back to their counties the following key points to maintain the momentum that the centenary year has brought:

  • Look back at 2007 and work out what worked well.
  • Share good practice.
  • Bring members together through training, group badges, and sectional events both local and countywide.
  • Explore links with international groups.

This list isn’t the challenge it may appear for we should all aim to fulfil these aspects in our everyday lives. The first 2 I think we all aspire to as we see the year end and a new one start. All we need to do is to join together and keep the success of 2007 alive.

So a new year, a new scouting century and a new County Commissioner! Bring in the new BUT don’t forget the old, the experiences and fun that have brought scouting thus far.

With good wishes to you all.

Liz Hodge, ACC Beaver Scouts
