Details of many Scouting events and opportunities run by the county or by neighbouring counties are advertised on the County Web Site's notice board page.

Please be sure to check the page frequently to see what new opportunities are on offer.

Some other opportunities are detailed below

Faith in the Essex International Jamboree 2008

The Essex International Jamboree is the UK’s biggest County Jamboree and this year it will host over 7,000 Scouts and Guides from across the world between 26 July to 2 August 2008.

If you are over 16 why not come and join me in staffing the Faith Zone.

Over a period of 5 days we will be offering participants a variety of bases to help them understand more about the major World Faiths. For members of staff who are still Explorer Scouts or in Scout Network, the experience could be used towards one of your Scouting Awards. If you are already taking a troop to the Jamboree you can get a discount if you are willing to take on a Staff role.

There will be plenty of time off to enjoy the Jamboree and every evening is free time. The cost for staff for a fully catered package is £65.00 or self-catering £20.00.

To find out more please email me. I hope that some of my Gloucestershire colleagues can join me in this fantastic International experience.

I look forward to your emails at: joan.gold@btopenworld.com.

Madagascar 2009 - Explorer belt

Gloucestershire Scouts Explorer Belt Expedition

Gloucestershire Scouts are running an Explorer Belt expedition to Madagascar during August 2009 and are looking for people to join the expedition. The Explorer Belt is the ultimate challenge for anyone aged 16-25 in Scouting.

It is a ten day expedition overseas during which you will complete projects, meet amazing new people, learn to understand their culture and gain memories that you will keep for the rest of your life.

Madagascar lies in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa. It is the fourth largest island in the world and is unique in every way. The majority of its wildlife is found no where else on earth. The country is a beautiful montage of rainforests, mountains, plains and paradise beaches. The Malagasy people are an incredible and unique mix of African and Indonesian, combining many cultures and styles into a distinct and beautiful people. It is one of the poorest countries in the world but the generosity and warmth of the Malagasy is overwhelming.

We will spend a month in July/August 2009 in Madagascar when, as well as undertaking the Explorer Belt expedition, we will spend time exploring rainforests, watching Lemurs, enjoying paradise beaches, exploring cities and helping at Akany Avoko children's home.

The Explorer Belt gives you the chance to see and experience places that holidays do not reach. You will spend ten days in rural Madagascar, visiting small villages and meeting some of the most amazing people you will ever meet. By the end you will see Madagascar and yourself in a whole new light. If you are up to the challenge … Join us!

Please note that you need to be aged 16-25 before July/August 2009 to join this expedition. If you have any questions or would like more information please don't hesitate to contact me. Join us for the Challenge of a lifetime!
