Since the earliest days of the Scouting Movement Cranham has been the centre of Scouting in Gloucestershire. Camping in its famous beech woods began and has continued by permission of the Birchall and Hicks-Beach families, holders of the manorial rights.

The site of the present County Scouting Centre was said to have been a pottery in Roman times and was certainly one of several potteries in the area, which only ceased operations in the early part of this century.

More recently "Cranham" has been expanded and developed into a forward looking and safety conscious place where young people can camp,  stay indoors or visit for a day and enjoy a wide range of activities both on the site and in the local area.
